April is the principal of Green Octopus Consulting and created the continent’s first Bicycle-Friendly Business District program for the City of Long Beach, California. She helped launch similar efforts in San Diego, Oakville, and several other cities and is asked to speak around North America on Bicycle-Friendly Business Districts and The Business Case for Bicycling. The City of Copenhagen’s bicycle manager recently visited Southern California to study her work.

April has worked with several Business Improvement Districts and Chambers of Commerce as a former marketing director and consultant, and she recently accepted the position of general manager of Bike Nation’s Long Beach upcoming bike share program. She is a board member of the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition and holds an MBA in Sustainable Management.

Her career goal is to increase the number of people who choose a bike, in place of a car, for local transportation. She lives car-free in Southern California, commuting everywhere via bike, and can often be seen riding around Long Beach with her seven-year-old daughter on their “bike limo” – the fancy name they gave their tandem.april and audrey

    Hi April,

This is Steve Ross, Charla Howard’s friend. I believe we met at your birthday party last year at the Congregation Coffee House.

I’m writing to suggest meeting for coffee or lunch to get acquainted and to see if there may be synergies between your work and mine. I’ve worked for many years in urban planning and land development, with emphasis on entitlement, community outreach, CEQA issues and sustainability. Charla thinks we may find some common ground and I’d like to explore that with you. You can email me at swinfieldross@gmail.com or call at 310-704-8102.

I look forward to chatting with you.

    Best regards,
